Programme Introduction
“Jockey Club Precision Prevention Programme on Young Onset Diabetes” funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the first programme using the genetic markers to identify the individuals at high risk for developing young onset diabetes, has been launched.
This programme aimed at identifying young people with genetic risk for developing young-onset diabetes in order to help them to take early action to prevent or delay its onset.

Early identification of diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance (iT)

  • 18-44 years-old and

  • Without known history of diabetes and

  • With at least one risk factor for diabetes

Risk factor for diabetes

  • Central obesity / obesity

  • family history of diabetes

  • smoking history

  • history of hypertension/ high blood glucose level/ abnormal lipid level / cardiovascular disease/ fatty liver

  • women with history of gestational diabetes/ polycystic ovary syndrome/ delivery of baby ≥ 4kg

  • lack of physical activity (< 150 minutes of exercise/ week)
